Section 2. As a general rule, each word in a sentence should be written with a space between them.
  • In Korean, words are spaced out individually because they are the smallest units of speech that can be used independently. In the sentence "동생 밥 먹는다," "동생(younger brother)," "밥(a bowl of cooked rice," and "먹는다" (to eat) are each word, and therefore they are spaced out individually to form "동생 밥 먹는다."
  • However, particles(조사) in Korean do not have independence, so unlike other words, they are attached to the preceding word. In the sentence "동생이 밥을 먹는다," "이" and "을" are particles, so they are always attached to the preceding words to form "동생이" and "밥을".
